Office of Citizen Exchanges
The US Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (BECA) administers a variety of international exchange programs, including youth exchanges and an education project with Africa. One of the most notable programs, the International Visitor Leadership Program, brings 5,000 foreign nationals to the United States each year. These visitors are selected by American Foreign Service Officers overseas. They are either current or future leaders in government, education, media, and other sectors. Fulbright Teacher Exchanges
The Fulbright Teacher Exchange program provides international educators with the opportunity to teach in the United States for one year. Participants are immersed in the classroom environment of secondary schools throughout the United States, and they share their professional knowledge with fellow U.S. teachers. Along with teaching, Fulbright TEA participants also engage in civic and cultural activities in the host country, including home hospitality visits and historical sites.
Working Group
In response to the recent debate over the future of education funding, the Joint Standing Committee on Education and Cultural Affairs established the Working Group on Educational and Cultural Affair. The goal of the group is to improve the educational experience for foster care youth. It also promotes cross-system collaboration and raises awareness of the issues affecting these youth. A report is required by 1/15/2022 and must be presented to the committee. A summary of the findings will be published on the website of the committee.
